THERAPEUTIC AGENT FOR RESTENOSIS AND ARTERIOSCLEROSIS

PURPOSE: To obtain a preventing and therapeutic agent effective against vascular intramural hyperplasia caused after the percutaneous angioplasty. CONSTITUTION: This preventing and therapeutic agent for restenosis and arteriosclerosis after percutaneous angioplasty contains batroxobin which is a thrombinlike enzyme derived from Bothrops atrox moojeni snake venom. Since the batroxobin is capable of manifesting the species specificity for mammals, a heparin, as necessary, is preferably further used in combination for the mammals in which the fibrinogen level in blood is not remarkably lowered. The daily dose of the batroxobin for an adult is usually 1-20 batroxobin units at a time. The batroxobin unit is a unit indicating the extent of enzymic activity and obtained by measuring the extent of activity coagulating within 19.0±0.2sec as 2 units when 0.1ml batroxobin solution is added to 0.3ml standard human blood plasma containing citric acid added thereto at 37 deg.C.
