Disclosed is a tetradecahedral rare earth activated alkaline earth metal fluorohalide stimulable phosphor of the formula (I): Ba1-xMIIxFX:yMI,zLn(I) wherein MII is Sr or Ca; MI is Li, Na, K, Rb or Cs; X is Cl, Br or I; Ln is Ce, Pr, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Tm or Yb; and 0</=x</=0.5, 0</=y</=0.05 and 0<z</=0.2. Also disclosed are a process for the preparation of the above stimulable phosphor and a radiation image storage panel.
