PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a response time comparable to the response time of an electronic sensor by means of a two-step structure of a trip device and to provide a mechanism which can avoid the influence on the operation of the trip device of resistance to activation of a device actuated by the trip device. SOLUTION: This trip device has an inertial mass 12 capable of being moved in translation between a neutral position and a trip position, and an activating pin 22 for activating an impact fuse 24. The activating pin 22 is acted upon by a spring 20 and held in a standby position by a catch means 26 and a control body 16 capable of being shifted in translation in a housing 10 is biased by a spring 18 into a neutral position and is functionally arranged between the inertial mass 12 and the catch means 26. The control body 16 can be struck by the inertial mass 12 and on being impacted with a predetermined amount of striking energy can be moved from the neutral position to a release position, in which it releases the catch means 26 for release of the activating pin 22.
