ELECTROLYTIC MANGANESE DIOXIDE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To provide a process for producing manganese dioxide capable of improving an initial function of a battery and preservability by suspending a suspension manganese oxide in an electrolysis bath and subjecting this to electrolysis under special conditions. CONSTITUTION: A suspension manganese oxide having an average particle diameter of <=5μm is suspended in an electrolysis bath in 0.01-0.2g/l. The obtained suspension is subjected to electrolysis under the following conditions: an electric current density (x) at the anode of 0.4-3.0A/dm<2> ; an electrolysis temperature (y) of 93-103 deg.C; the relation between x and y satisfies the equation, 103>=y>=1.67x+92.33; and a sulfuric acid concentration in the electrolysis bath of 0.45-0.55mol/l. Thus, the objective electrolytic manganese dioxide having a BET specific surface area of <=30m<2> /g and suspension degree of <=50mg/l is obtained.
