A silver halide photographic material comprises at least one silver halide emulsion layer provided on a support. The silver halide emulsion layer contains a color coupler. According to the present invention, the color coupler is contained in particles of a specific polymer dispersed in the silver halide emulsion layer. The specific polymer comprises repeating units represented by the formula (I): n atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; each of R2 and R3 is an aliphatic group or an aromatic group, or R2 and R3 are combined with the oxygen atoms and the phosphorus atom to form a heterocyclic ring; and L is a divalent linking group selected from -CO-, -O-, -S-, -NR4-, -SO2-, a divalent aliphatic group, a divalent aromatic group and a combination thereof, and R4 is hydrogen or an aliphatic group.
