<p>PURPOSE: To obtain a fire-retardant coating film remover which allows the coating film to swell and soften in a short time independent of the form of application by mixing an organic solvent of a specified solubility parameter with a material that absorbs and retains the solvent. CONSTITUTION: A cured fire-retardant coating film obtained by coating an electric wire or cable with a fire-retardant material (coating material) comprising a mixture of an aqueous emulsion base and an organic flame retardant, etc., and curing the coating film is immersed in organic solvents of various solubility parameters (SP values), and the changes in weight thereof are determined to give the results shown by the figure. A coating film remover is obtained by mixing an organic solvent having an SP value of 8 to 13, e.g. dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO) (having an SP value of 12.6) with a material that adsorbs or absorbs and retains the solvent on the surface or inside thereof in an amount of 100-300wt.% based on the solvent. If necessary, the coating film remover is compounded with 5-50wt.% water and a thickening agent in an amount of 1-5wt.% based on the water and further mixed by agitation with a fibrous material, a pressure-sensitive adhesive comprising, e.g. a resin latex, and an anti-settling agent comprising, e.g. a silane coupling agent.</p> |
