PURPOSE: To reduce the amount of data to be processed and improve a printing speed by detecting the kind of printing data, i.e., text printing data or image printing data, color printing data or monochromatic printing data, etc., and switching an image-forming process in accordance with the kind. CONSTITUTION: A color text formed on a host computer 3000 is transmitted as printing data. The received printing data are analyzed at a printer controller 100. When the data are detected to be text data or printing data of figures or the like, a printing/processing routine attaching more importance to the resolution than the gradation is executed to reproduce data. On the other hand, when the data are image printing data such as photographs or pictures, a printing/processing routine attaching more importance to the gradation is carried out. Image data formed by different printing/processing routines are superposed by a printing image data-combining means 111 and output as printing image data to a pulse width-modulating circuit 1501, so that full-color printing is realized. |
