PURPOSE: To control the attitude and direction of a shield machine by providing a rod having a tapered top and externally projected from the easing of a shield machine in a radial direction, a jack and a turning device. CONSTITUTION: An attitude and direction control device 1 is formed out of a rod externally projected from a easing along a radial direction, a jack for causing the rod to advance and retreat in an axial direction, and a turning device for turning the rod about an axial line. Furthermore, attitude and direction control devices 1 and 1a are laid respectively behind the left side of the upper cutter disc 13 and behind the right side of the lower cutter disc 14 of a composite circular shield machine 10. Also, the tapered surfaces 2a and 2a of the devices 1 and 1a are directed along an arrow direction. The shield machine 10A, when made to advance in that condition, turns in an arrow X direction about a center line L, due to the reaction of the natural ground acting on the tapered surfaces 2a and 2a, thereby enabling the attitude and direction of the machine 10A to be controlled via the resultant force of the reaction. |
