PRODUCTION OF PALLADIUM POWDER FOR PASTE

PURPOSE: To produce Pd powder suitable for use as stock of Pd paste and less liable to a volumetric change due to the oxidation of Pd at the time of producing a laminated capacitor. CONSTITUTION: Palladium powder of about 0.1-1μm particle diameter is kneaded with a readily acid-soluble salt of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal and an org. solvent, the org. solvent is removed by volatilization and the resultant mixture of Pd powder with a readily acid-soluble compd. is heated at >=300 deg.C and allowed to cool. The compd. is then dissolved in an acid and the objective Pd powder is recovered. Since this Pd powder has a large crystallite diameter and is excellent in oxidation resistance, when it is used for preparing Ag paste for an internal electrode of MLCC, an effect of preventing delamination at the interface between an internal Pd electrode and a dielectric layer as the max. defect of MLCC can be expected.
