An electronic wallet (100) is capable of storing at least a balance corresponding to an account in a financial institution. Additionally, the electronic wallet (100) is capable of selective call receiving (200) a wireless message transmitted from a remote transmitter (312, 314) and including information relating to the balance for confirming a financial transaction with the financial institution. The electronic wallet (100) can update the balance in response to the wireless message for performing financial transactions.
