PURPOSE: To obtain a polymeric optical material improved in heat resistance by mixing a polysiloxane comprising structural units represented by a specified formula with at least one member selected from among polyisocyanates, silane compounds, and alkoxides and chelate compounds of Ti, Al and Zr. CONSTITUTION: A polysiloxane comprising repeating units represented by the formula [wherein R1 and R2 are each alkyl, deuterated alkyl or a like group represented by the formula Cb Y2b+1 (wherein Y is H, D or halogeno; and b is an integer) or phenyl, deuterated phenyl or a like group represented by C6 Y5 ] and a polyisocyanate in such an amount that the total isocyanate equivalent is not greater than the total hydroxyl equivalent are dissolved in a suitable amount of a solvent (e.g. methyl ethyl ketone) to obtain a polysiloxane optical material. A silane compound, and an alkoxide or a chelate compound of Ti, Al or Zr are used in the same way. A film of the optical material is formed on an Si wafer by the spin coating method, dried and cured by heating to form a clad layer. A core layer of, e.g. a polysiloxane is applied on the clad layer and dried to form a core/clad structure optical waveguide. |
