PURPOSE: To solve the problem of clogging of a mesh for separating a developer and mixed foreign matter removed from an image carrier after image formation and to keep a good separation function. CONSTITUTION: In a separator, magnetic force sleeves 18, 19 each having a magnetic force generating means and a rotatable cylindrical sleeve inside and outside respectively are arranged opposite to each other with a mesh 20 being put between them, and a magnetic pole of the opposite part is made to be of reversed polarity to generate the convergence magnetic field, and magnetic force N19 of the magnetic force sleeve 19 is set larger than magnetic force S18 of the other magnetic force sleeve 18. Magnetic powder is replenished to the magnetic force sleeve 18 side to convey magnetic powder stuck on the magnetic force sleeve to the magnetic force sleeve 19 on the opposite side through the mesh by magnetic force, causing foreign matter or the like to be separated. Therefore, abnormality of the revolution of a vibration giving means 23 for giving vibration to the mesh is detected (25, 26), and the magnetic pole of the magnetic force sleeve 19 is rotated and evacuated to move the clogged mesh, and the sleeve is returned again to the opposite position. |
