A spacing grid for holding an array of fuel elements symmetrically in individual cells (17) inside a flow tube (3), which forms part of a test rig wherein fuel elements are subjected to axial flow of coolant, comprises a closed band (7) of polygonal outline presenting flat faces (8) to which are attached respective supports (11) carrying leaf springs (12), which bear on the inside of tube (3) and hold the grid therein. The inside cross section of the band (7) is divided symmetrically by crossing walls (13,14) into cells (17). Walls (13,14) incorporate bosses (15,15') and the band (7) carries leaf springs (16) which face into cells (17) to bear on the fuel elements therein.
