The invention concerns a stent (1) to be set inside a body vessel. It comprises a flexible support structure (2) made of interwoven metal embedded in a casing (3) of memory elastomer. The support structure (2) consists of a shape memory alloy (memory metal) which is soft at room temperature. The casing (3) of memory elastomer, by contrast, is hard. This combination results in a stent (1) which at room temperature is thin and hard and can be easily positioned in a stenosis. At body temperature, the support structure (2) expands and the sheath (3) becomes soft and flexible, thus creating a thick and hard, but elastic, stent.
