CONTROLLER FOR OPERATIONS IN A COMPUTER AND METHOD OF USING SAME

A controller (6) for transferring data between operational stages (2 and 4) in a computer is provided. The controller (6) includes a shift register (20) for receiving a scheduling word and a counter (22) for generating an address which corresponds to a datum to be transferred. The controller (6) can be pre-programmed with a scheduling word to effect execution overlap between the stages.
