The multi-function operating lever has a relatively rotatable function selection element (2) fitted to the lever shaft (1,1a) which can be displaced between a number of defined axial positions (S1,S2) along the lever shaft, for controlling respective functions corresponding to the different rotary positions. Pref. the free end (1a) of the lever shaft projects beyond the lever shaft in at least one of the defined axial positions (S1), each of these positions defined by spring loaded ratchet pins cooperating with corresponding recesses on the inside of the function selection element.
