Evacuable chamber for cooling metallic materials after heat treatment

Heat treated metallic material is cooled down in an evacuable chamber which contains water spray showers with an output of 0.1 to 10 l/sec., the showers being operated while there is a low pressure in the chamber. Condensate surface are pref. provided behind the showers to cause accelerated condensation of the water vapour produced during cooling. Air may be blown at a speed of 5 to 25 m./sec. from below the heat-treated material. Application of water sprays and air can be controlled by a program.
