A method for making flat components comprising the steps of cutting and shaping a sheet of resilient material, said flat components having dimensional tolerance in the thickness direction thereof. The method further comprises a step of shaping the sheet material by forming at least one projection (28) corresponding to a cavity which is smaller than the projection (28) so that the position of maximum insertion of the projection (28) into the cavity of an adjacent component is such that two adjacent components (20) of nominal sizes are separated by a gap equal to more than twice the dimensional tolerance in the thickness direction. The method is useful for making keyboard springs.
