The heel (1) slides in a rail (2) on the back of the shoe (6) and the sole (3). The radius of curvature of the rail allows the heel to stay vertical. The sole bends at an articulation (11) which is covered by an extensible part. A button (4) engages in one of several holes in the rail to lock the heel in place. It slides axially in a hole in the top of the heel and is held in the rail by a spring. The rail has a stop at the top but is open at the base.
