Controllable fast, robust vacuum-activated chain binding stitch plate

A vacuum-activated chain binding stitch plate has a body with front (12) and right (18) edges. There is a stitching tongue (34) integral with the body and parallel with the right edge, a first drill-hole (56) which follows a first axis (58) through the tongue and, connected to a vacuum source, a conduit (60,62) which connects the drill-hole with the front edge and follows a second axis (58) displaced sideways w.r.t. the first. Also claimed is the vacuum source which has a source of gas at positive pressure, a vacuum generator with an inlet, an outlet and an opening for vacuum which is connected by a conduit to the stitch plate.
