Liposomes (I) comprising a microencapsulated aq. soln. of bioavailable ferrous iron stabilised with a reducing agent which inhibits oxidn. to ferric iron are new. PREFERRED LIPOSOMES - The ferrous iron is present in the form of ferrous sulphate, lactate or citrate and the reducing agent is ascorbic acid or an ascorbate. The microencapsulation comprises a double-layered membrane formed from lecithin, esp. one having a transition temp. of about 0 deg C or > 20 deg C. The liposomes may contain other trace elements, e.g. Cu, Zn and/or Co.
