A device for cleaning a corona wire 10 in an electro-photographic image forming apparatus consists of a shield case 12 having a longitudinal slit 14 and a guide 16 which is able to slide along the slit. The guide has a central hole 18 and a cleaning shaft 22 which slides in the hole is carried by the guide and movable relative to it between an operative position in which a cleaning element is in contact with the corona wire and rest position in which it is not. Compression springs 32 are provided for biasing the cleaning element into its rest position with respect to the guide and the cleaning shaft includes a stop 30 which prevents the cleaning shaft from escaping from the hole.
