Stretched cable tie

A stretched cable tie (10) has a head (11) connected to a strap (12) having teeth (14) on both sides of the strap (12). A moveable pawl (19) is positioned on a ledge (21) inside the head (11) and urges the strap (12) into engagement with a fixed tooth (27) within the head (11) so that teeth (14) on both sides of the strap (12) are engaged by the pawl (19) and fixed tooth (27) respectively. A sharp corner (32)is provided more than a multiple of the spacing between the strap teeth (14) below the fixed tooth (27) so as to allow the corner (32) to penetrate the strap (12) and engage the adjacent tooth to aid in providing a withdrawal force. A portion (25,41) of the wall of the head (11) behind the fixed tooth (27) is removed to facilitate cooling and eliminate shrinkage in the area of the fixed tooth (27).
