An entertainment machine system has a number of interconnected machines (1-3) such as coin-operated machines, player-operable machines having VDU (visual display unit) playing displays. Each machine can be operated in a range of different games-playing modes and a player can select any mode from the range e.g. by selection from a list on a touch screen (7).
