The present invention provides a cutter which can prevent wear and friction noise of two cutter blades after cutting a medium. The cutter (15) comprises: a first cutter blade moving mechanism (24) to move a first cutter blade (21) back and forth between a forward position (21A) for cutting a recording sheet (3) and a retreat position (21B) separated from the forward position (21A); and a second cutter blade moving mechanism (25) to move a second cutter blade (22) between a friction contact position (22A) for coming in frictional contact with the first cutter blade (21) to cut the recording sheet (3) and a separation position (22B) for separating from the first cutter blade (21). The second cutter blade moving mechanism (25) arranges the second cutter blade (22) on the separation position (22B) before the first cutter blade moving mechanism (24) moves the first cutter blade (21) to the retreat position (21B) from the forward position (21A). Since the two cutter blades (21, 22) do not touch each other after cutting the recording sheet (3), wear and friction noise can be prevented. |
