PURPOSE: To securely prevent the counterflow in the refrigerant discharging path within a generator and the intrusion of liquid refrigerant into the discharging circuit by controlling the opening and closing of an automatic closing valve provided in a pipe on the side of a current discharging stationary part based on the operating state of the main body of the generator. CONSTITUTION: A control system 31 judges the operating state of a superconducting generator, i.e., the state of a rotor, based on the respective detected signals from a number-of-rotation detector 32 for detecting the number of rotation of the rotor, a liquid-level detector 33 for detecting the refrigerant level in a rotor container and a pressure detector 34 for detecting the pressure in the rotor container and controls the opening and closing of a solenoid valve 30. Concretely, when the control system 31 has judged the occurrence of the conditions such as intrusion of the refrigerant liquid into a current-lead-side exhaust path 16 and the counterflow of the refrigerant gas through the current- lead-side exhaust path 16, the solenoid valve 30 provided in a stationary-side pipe 18 for current-lead exhaust is closed. Accordingly, the counterflow in the refrigerant discharging path within the generator and the intrusion of the liquid refrigerant into the discharging path can be securely prevented.
