PURPOSE: To attain image pickup with high resolution having a high cost merit with simple structure. CONSTITUTION: An image forming system is formed with a interchangeable lens 14 of a single lens reflex camera and a reduction relay optical system 15, a 3-color separation prisms 16 separating a light into two green colors (G1, G2) and red/blue colors (RB) is arranged to a rear side of the image forming optical system and CCDs 19-17 picking up each color image of the RB, G1, G2 are arranged to a rear side of a transmission side of each of prisms 16a-16c. The G1 color CCD 17 and the RB color CCD 19 pick up the same optical image and the G2 color CCD 18 picks up an optical image deviated by a distance√(PH/2)<2> +(PV/2)<2> } in an oblique direction with respect to the G1 color CCD 17, where PH is a lateral picture element pitch and PV is a longitudinal picture element pitch. The resolution is enhanced by picking up the optical image of a green color component by a picture element density substantially a multiple of four with respect to that of a single board image pickup system and the interchangeable lens of a single lens reflex camera is used through the combination of the reduction relay optical system.
