PURPOSE: To provide a vacuum bulb manufacturing method by which metallizing and air-tight joining can be carried out simultaneously and which has advantages from view points of reliability, economical properties, and environmental awareness. CONSTITUTION: At the time of joining an insulating container made of a ceramic with a sealing metal, at least one side of a metal foil having 10-1000μm thickness and selected from Ag, Cu, Ag-Cu, Ag-In, Cu-In, Ag-Cu-In, Ag-Cu-Sn, and Cu-Mn is set to be an object face to be joined. A mixture with 500-5000 centipoise viscosity produced by mixing and kneading at least one of activated metal selected from titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr), or chromium (Cr) with 0.01-50μm average diameter of particles in the case of a granular powder or thickness in the case of a flaky thin film-like body is applied to the object face to be joined. After that, the activated metal layer is set between the an insulating container made of a ceramic and a sealing metal and while vacuum evacuation being carried out, the insulating container made of a ceramic and the sealing metal are joined by solder joining.
