PURPOSE: To enable highly efficient cutting processing of a soft material such as aluminum or its alloy material by specifying the web thickness of the periphery and the edge thickness each, at the cross section vertical to the axial direction of a ball end mill. CONSTITUTION: In a ball end mill suitable for performing such cutting as to make a semicircular cavity in an object for cutting made of soft metal such as aluminum or the like by performing cut in the axial direction of a ball end mill such as counterbore processing, the web thickness of the periphery is set within the range of 20-50% of the diameter of a tool, and the thickness of the edge is set within the range of 70-85% of the tool. Moreover, the edge is made not in assembly system but in integrated system so that it may not obstruct the discharge of chips. According to this, such cutting processing as to make a semicircular cavity in the surface of cutting material can be performed with high efficiency, and also processing being performed usually in a ball end mill such as copying processing can be performed with high efficiency. |
