摘要 PURPOSE: To lengthen a charging/discharging cyclic life, and let oxygen generated be efficiently removed by letting oxide represented by A'B' O3 exist on the surface of an electrode made of an alloy which does not contain intermetallic compounds other than compounds which are represented by a stoichiometry AXB5.0 having a AB5 phase. CONSTITUTION: When a hydrogen storing alloy represented by a stoichiometry AXB5.0 is made, the addition of a small amount of carbon allows the phases of intermetallic compounds other than a AB5 phase not to be contained, and the formation of fine crystal particles by a water cooling casting methods causes corrosion resistance to be increased. When an electrode is formed out of the powder of the aforesaid alloy, the oxide powder of A'B'O3 is mixed in the surface of the electrode, or the slurry of the oxide powder of A'B'O3 and binder is coated on the surface of the formed electrode, so that the oxide of A'B'O3 is thereby formed over the surface of the electrode. By this constitution, oxygen which is generated in the positive electrode at the time of overcharging is efficiently removed. In this case, A represents Mm, B represents more than one kind of chemical selected out of Al, Co, Mn and Ni, A' represents more than one kind of chemical selected out of Mm, Ca and Sr, B' represents Co or Mn, and x is defined by 0.95<=x<=1.00.
