PURPOSE: To efficiently optically resolve the (±)-dihydrojasmonic acid useful for obtaining an optically active dihydrojasmonic acid useful as a raw material for an optically active substance having a fragrance by treating the (±)- dihydrojasmonic acid with a specific optically active compound. CONSTITUTION: (A) The (±)-dihydrojasmonic acid of the formula is treated with (B) optically active 1-(4-isopropylphenyl)ethylamine as a resolving agent to optically resolve the component A. For example, the components A and B are thermally dissolved in a solvent such as diisopropyl ether, hexane, toluene or methanol, and subsequently gradually cooled to deposit the slightly soluble diastereomer salt, which is separated by a filtration method, etc. The crystals of the obtained slightly soluble diastereomer salt are treated with the aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, etc. The liberated compound B is extracted and recovered with a solvent such as diethyl ether. Hydrochloric acid, etc., is added to an aqueous layer, and the liberated optically active dihydrojasmonic acid is extracted with a solvent. The component A is thus optically resolved.
