MULTILINGUAL INPUT METHOD

PURPOSE: To obtain the multilingual input method which is improved in operability by outputting candidate characters corresponding to an inputted key word for retrieval without discrimination between Japanese and a foreign language, and making a choice by an operator. CONSTITUTION: It is decided which of KANA(Japanese syllabary) and Roman characters the key word inputted from a keyboard 201 is in, and a dictionary file to be retrieved is selected out of a dictionary file group 207 on the basis of the decision result. On the basis of the key word, a dictionary file retrieval control part 205 retrieves the selected dictionary file. When the dictionary file contains the key board, a candidate character output control part 217 connected to an output device control part 218 obtains data corresponding to the key word from the dictionary file and retrieves font data corresponding to in-data character codes from a font file group 211. The candidate characters are edited by using the font data obtained through the retrieval and outputted on a CRT 219.
