PURPOSE: To disperse the concentration of stress falling on the riser during cutting so as to improve the resistance to break and chipping, and also, facilitate the discharge of chips by putting the variation of web thickness in a recessed smooth curve, in an end mill where the web thickness becomes larger from the head of the end to the riser. CONSTITUTION: In a end mill where the web thickness becomes larger gradually from the tip of the end to the riser 4, used for a machine tool such as a milling machine, a machining center, etc., especially, used for heavy cutting such as groove cutting, etc., the variation of the web thickness is made a recessed smooth curve. Moreover, this recess is set in the shape of a circular arc or a secondary curve, and the circular arc is set in the diameter 2-10 times as large as that of the edge. Furthermore, the web thickness 5 of the end tip is set in the range of 4-70% of the outside diameter of the tool. This disperses the concentration of stress of the riser 4 during cutting to improve resistance to break or chipping, and enlarges the chip pocket 7 with the riser 4 to facilitate the discharge of chips, whereby stable cutting can be made. |
