The process constitutes an effective protection against fires which it extinguishes without risk to human lives. It consists in distributing, over the area to be protected, tanks or containers of water 1 whose walls are readily inflammable, so that, upon reaching them, the flames cause the water to be poured out from the inside, thereby suffocating the fire. The water inside the tank 1 is collected therein during rainy periods, and it therefore incorporates a cover 7 with a central drain (sink hole) 8 to prevent evaporation of the water collected and an upper grille 6 for preventing its blockage. Provision is also made for such tanks to be used in buildings, in which case they are hidden in false ceilings or the like and said grille 6 is not required. <IMAGE>
