Stepwise or cascade device (1) for vibratory sorting of bulbous and tuberous products, e.g. root vegetables, according to size comprises a number of steps [2-5] in series, each having a sieve [9-12] of a specific size. Each step [2-5] overlaps the following step [3-5],, at least in part, such that product passing through is directed onto the following sieve size [9-12]. A cross-conveyor [14] is located at the downstream end of each step [2-5] such that sorted product is removed into e.g. appropriate containers. The sieves [9-12] are releasably clamped along two sides and at their corners and held in position in a frame [21] by mans of a centrally operated clamping system [8]. Operation of the central lever [20] generates a clamping force on the sieve [9-12] via the action of the angled clamp plates along the edge and at the corners of the sieve, and the angled guides provided by the central actuating system and near the corners of the sieve.
