Long life abrasion-proof pressing cover to drain water from paper web

A pressing cover for a press appts. for drainage of water from a material strip, esp. paper web in the press gap of a paper machine, is a band (10) having an inner layer (20) of elastomer matrix material facing away from the web and containing embedded reinforcement cords (16,18). There is also an abrasion resistant outer layer (22) adjacent to the web. Here this outer layer is made of the same or similar material to the inner layer and is loaded by reinforcing abrasion resistant particles. Also claimed is a process for prodn. of the pressing cover. The matrix material for the first inner layer (20) is poured on to a moulding body to envelop the reinforcing cords (16,18). Here the particle-loaded second layer (22) is poured on top of the first before it hardens.
