The secondary set is connected in parallel with the telephone line. If the handset of the secondary set, following an incoming call, is lifted (50) before the end of a predetermined period of emission of signals from a call indicator, the telecopier is placed on silent and parallel listening (51). If it is a telecopy call, the telecopier is instructed (52) to pass into telecopy communication. The invention enables the telecopier to be easily placed on silent and parallel listening, without structural adaptation.
