<p>A continuous helically wound tube (10) is made from a flexible sheet (12) of textile material of uniform width by winding the sheet helically into a tubular form so that adjacent sides (16, 18) of adjacent helical convolutions overlap each other, the inner faces of the helical convolutions being supported by support means (28, 30) defining at least two spaced apart elongate support surfaces. The overlapped sides are simultaneously joined together along their lengths at a position intermediate the support surfaces to form a continuous tube. Apparatus (25) for making the tube includes support means (28, 30) feed means (34, 36) for feeding the sheet on to the support means so as to wind the sheet into a helically wound tubular form and joining means (37) positioned intermediate the support means.
