The 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy benzo phenone is made by reacting 2,4-dihydroxy benzo phenone and dimethyl sulfite in the solvent, mixed with low-grade alkane like cyclohexane or n-hexane and low-grade ketone like acetone, methylethyl keyone or cyclohexanone at the ratio of 1:1-1:4, under a catalyst such as potassium carbonate or sodium carbonate. The reaction is maintained for 5-10 hrs at 60-70 deg.C.
