The extractor fan assembly includes a chamber (13) through which the extraction air passes. The chamber includes an inlet aperture (12) with a fan, and an outlet aperture (15) closed by a valve flap (10). The valve flap rests on the free edges of the aperture, forming a seating and closing under the effect of gravity. The flap is only opened by the action of the fan, ensuring that extracted air cannot return. The fan may be operated by a low tension electrical supply, controlled by a switch activated by lifting the toilet seat. This comprises a magnet moved by the lid adjacent to an electromagnetic switch. The fan may subsequently be controlled by a timer.
