The invention relates to a coating method and device, which allow the paper web or the like to be coated at any point from the first drainage stage to the completed drying stage. The method consists in producing a mist from the coating suspension and directing the mist in the nozzle 24, which is not in physical contact with the paper web 11. The mist is normally transferred by the air flow, but electrostatic charges may also be applied to the paper web 11 and the mist in order to induce the paper web 11 to attract the mist and the mist to adhere to the paper web 11.
