The image display screen uses plastic optical fibres arranged in a series of parallel vertical plates which are regularly spaced. Each plate comprises aligned adjacent optical fibres arranged with a specific orientation w.r.t. the vertical. Each fibre corresponds to one pixel of the display screen, and the cross-section of the fibres is rectangular. The fibres are cut at an angle (theta) such that the new cut surface is multiplied by the factor (4/pi.sin(theta)) w.r.t. the normal cross-section of the fibre. In an alternative design, the fibres may be circular in cross-section, and are rendered elliptical at the cut surface by virtue of the angle of cut.
