The device has a drain-plug which is connected to a vertical rod (12), and is operated by a push-button (2) which is arranged to move along a path which is roughly perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (15) of the rod. The motion is transferred between the two directions by a component (16). The inside (17) of the button may act upon a sliding plunger (20), against the force of a return spring (19), and the plunger may act directly or indirectly on the rod. The button may have two parts, with an inner part (22) which is guided in the outer part (23), and which acts upon the rod via the plunger.
