In order to verify the reliability of position coordinate data provided by a computer input panel 4 and to prevent erroneous recognition of the coordinates corresponding to the point where the panel is depressed, a comparator 12 is connected to the upper plate 6 of the panel and to a reference voltage source, and a processor 2, which receives the comparator output, checks that the plate is depressed both before and after determining the coordinate data. As shown the panel 4 is of resistive type, and has the four corners UL, UR LL, LR of its lower plate 8 connected to the processor 2. When the upper plate 6 is depressed, the potentials at the four corners are independently varied and the position coordinates corresponding to where the plate 6 is depressed can be accurately discriminated from the potentials generated. <IMAGE>
