The braking system (1) has a hydraulic brake pressure source (2), driven by an electric motor (6) and coupled via a braking line (11) with at least one wheel braking cylinder (12). The braking line contains an electromagnetically-operated blocking valve (14), the valve switched into the closed position and the electric motor disconnected during the pressure maintaining phase for the wheel braking cylinder(s). Pref. a control device monitors the required braking signal for switching the electric motor back into operation at the end of the pressure maintaining phase.
