The invention concerns a process for treating thalium-containing waste water produced in particular in the oxidation leaching of the fine dusts produced in the metallurgical processing of sulphide ores, and also containing several other metals such as zinc, lead, cadmium, copper, arsenic, selenium and tellurium. The process involves the addition to the effluent of a solution of alkali carbonate and caustic alkali in order to effect neutralisation precipitation of the metals zinc, lead, cadmium, copper, arsenic, selenium and tellurium. A sulphide solution is then added to precipitate the thallium and the resulting precipitate is then immediately separated out from the waste water. |
