This invention aims at prolonging the lifetime of a ball bearing by improviving the oil film forming capability of the ball bearing, the invention being characterized in that innumerable needle-shaped fine recesses (5) are formed at random in a scattered manner in the surface (2a) of a ball (2) for a ball bearing so that the recesses have center line average heights in a predetermined range and fall within predetermined ranges in length, width and number.
