SIMULATED BUTT HINGE CONSTRUCTION

A simulated butt hinge assembly (2) comprises an artificial knuckle-pintle-finial butt hinge (4) attached to an L-shaped plate structure (6, 8). The artificial butt hinge (4) comprises spaced knuckle simulating grooves (10) in a one-piece cylindrical member (9) with finials (16) formed at opposite ends of the cylindrical member (9), the grooves (10) simulating separate knuckles (12). The L-shaped plate structure (6, 8) has one plate (6) extending from the artificial hinge assembly and a second plate (8) which is clamped between a flange (58) of a snap type hidden articulating hinge (50) and a movable panel (20). The articulating hinge has a second flange (30) secured to a frame (48) to rotatably secure the panel (20) to the frame (48). The artificial hinge protrudes from the part of the panel (20) to simulate a butt hinge (4). Other embodiments are disclosed including a multiple separate knuckles in an artificial hinge.
