A device for deducing causes of a failure of a driving machine with a good accuracy. The frequency of each phenomenon is estimated for each of the probabilities of the causes based on the data on the estimated frequencies. The estimated frequency for each probability is compared with the frequency data and the error is operated for each of the probabilities. The operated errors are compared to each other for each of the causes, and it is deduced that the probability for which the smallest error is obtained for each cause is the probability of the cause.
