Gas valve for laparoscopic port

The laparoscopic port (1) has a shaft (2) at its distal end through which the shaft (4) of a trocar can pass. In use, the pointed distal end (5) of the trocar is used to pierce the stomach wall and the shaft of the laparoscopic port is pushed into the hole created forming an air tight seal. Within the body of the port is a valve housing (6) which contains a valve insert (7) having an inclined distal face (9) and a through hole (8) through which the trocar can pass. Lying against the inclined face is a valve flap (10) made from a flexible material such as silicon. The top of the flap is secured to the inclined face of the insert by one or more rivets or screws (11).
